The Martyrdom of Polycarp

Polycarp was a student of the apostle John, and became the bishop of the church of Smyrna.  Around the year A.D. 160 he was dragged into the arena and told to curse Christ or die.  In response he said: “Eighty-six years have I served Him, and he never did me any injury. How then can I blaspheme my King and my Savior?  Bring forth what you will.”
